KOOSKÕLAS (Together in Song)

Kooskõlas brings together singers from across the country to celebrate Estonia’s rich choral tradition. Founded in 2012 to prepare for participation in Estonia’s ‘Laulupidu’ (Song Celebration), the choir successfully auditioned and traveled to Tallinn for the XXVI ‘Laulupidu’ in 2014 under the direction of Rachelle Elliot.

Reformed in 2017 as a national ensemble, Kooskõlas attracted singers from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory. Under the direction of Dr Naomi Cooper, the choir successfully auditioned for the XXVII ‘Laulupidu’ in 2019 to celebrate 150 years of ‘Laulupidu’. Kooskõlas then expanded to include Western Australia and sang at the XXVIII ‘Laulupidu’ in 2025.

Kooskõlas remains active through face-to-face and online rehearsals, continuing to strengthen connections between Australian Estonians through music. The choir has appeared at festivals and concerts around Australia, including ‘Eesti Päevad’, the National Folk Festival in Canberra, the Canberra Multicultural Festival, the Blackheath Choir Festival, Choralfest, the Galston Concert Series, and performances with the renowned Estonian composer and pianist Rein Rannap.

Through song, friendship, and a shared cultural heritage, Kooskõlas continues to connect Australian Estonians with each other and with Estonia itself—truly living up to its name: Together in Song.
