Folkroos is a lively group of Estonian women from Brisbane who have been delighting audiences in both Estonia and Australia for many years. Folkroos was founded in 2018 when two enthusiastic women, Kristina Toom-Berger and Ingrid Hamer, came up with the idea of travelling to Estonia to participate in the 2019 Estonian Song and Dance Festival.
This was the beginning of a dance group that has won the hearts of many local Estonians and become a source of pride for the entire Brisbane Estonian community.
Folkroos also participated in the 2025 Iseoma Dance Celebration, and one of the group’s major goals is to take part in the 2028 Estonian Dance Celebration!
The group also performs at local Brisbane Estonian community events, including Mother’s Day celebrations, Christmas and Midsummer (Jaanipäev).
Folkroos is fortunate to have three young and talented dance instructors: Piret Vaughan, who works as a doctor, choreographed the group’s very first original dances — some of which may even feature in the program at Eesti Päevad in Sydney!
Ingrid Hamer, a choreographer with 25 years of dance experience who lives in Estonia and visits the group from time to time to teach new dances.
Kätriin Vinkmann, who has been working as an early childhood educator in Australia for the past 10 years and has been Folkroos’s dance instructor since the group’s very beginning.
