Thursday 27 December 2007
The XXII Melbourne Eesti Päevad commences at 11.00 with a church service at St John’s Christendom Anglican Church opposite Estonia House, (43 Melville Road, West Brunswick). At 13.00 an opening ceremony will be held at Estonia House to welcome participants and visitors to take part in the extensive range events and festivities scheduled for the next 4 days.
In the afternoon enjoy the detail and hard work involved in creating the beautiful pieces on show at the opening of the Handicraft Exhibition, or discuss Estonian writings and literature with like minded people at a Writers afternoon tea.
Don’t wear yourselves out though, as everyone is welcome to join in the 1920-1930’s gangster themed Cabaret Concert and Opening Party. Cabaret-style acts will be performed by talented (and some not-so-talented!) members of our community, before Andrew Nolte & his Orchestra take to the floor. Dinner will be available.
Friday 28 December 2007
The proceedings for Day 2 start early for our Golfers (07.00) - Golf Course TBA. The main hall at Estonia House will be very busy during the day with practicing Choirs and Folk Dancers; while the Scouts and Guides will be meeting at Estonia House.
Late afternoon Melbourne’s theatre group will be performing an original and entertaining work, ‘Maret’. At 20.00 sharp be ready to board the good ship ‘Kalevipoeg’ for a social evening of cruising along the Yarra and Maribyrnong Rivers.
Saturday 29 December 2007
If you thought Day 2 was busy – looks what’s in store for Day 3! The Golfers are up early again; the kids will enjoy taking part in a workshop prepared especially for them; those artistically and culturally minded amongst us can enjoy the opening of the Art Exhibition at Steps Gallery (62 Lygon St, Carlton).
From 18.00 onwards Estonia House will be a-buzz music and colour as the Folk Dancers present traditional dances and modern interpretations of classic folk tunes, followed by another social night with a DJ.
Sunday 30 December 2007
Serious basketball and volleyball competitions start the day. While the main hall will be filled with the Choir’s rehearsing voices in preparation for tonight’s concert. Chatter and laughter will follow as they enjoy lunch together.
At 18.30 the magical sounds of the men’s, women’s and mixed choirs will come together as they perform at Estonia House. Tonight’s program will conclude with the official closing of the XXII Melbourne Eesti Päevad. However this doesn’t mean that it’s time for the festivities to finish!
Monday 31 December 2007
Day 4 sees go-kart engines and stoves fired up as speedsters and cooks compete for the second time at an Eesti Päevad. While the more faint-hearted should be polishing their dancing shoes, making the final adjustments to their masks and practicing their countdowns before resting up for the black-tie masquerade New Years Eve Ball.
The Masquerade Ball commences at 20.00, and the evening will include dinner, dancing and of course not only the countdown into the New Year, but also the closing of what has hopefully been another enjoyable and successful Eesti Päevad. |
